I guess I have read through this verse many, many times, with the same thought. Jesus wants us to serve others no matter who we think we are. In other words have a servants heart. But today as I was reading it, another thought come to mind. Sometimes it's not just being a servant. I've seen people serve others and complain the whole time they were doing it behind their backs. Still they thought they were fulfilling the verse. But what I seen today was, sometimes it's a dirty job. Sometimes it is a thankless job. Some people only want to serve if they get that pat on the back and that a boy. But if its dirty and thankless, they would just as soon let someone else do it. Back when I ran work crews, I always told them, I want ask you to do anything I want do myself. And that got tried a few times. But once they found out I would jump in a do something dirty or thankless, those people usually made the best hands you had and the hardest worker, because they knew you have their back no matter what. So that's what I feel Jesus means by the verse. A servant heart means sometimes getting dirty and not always getting a thank you from men. God will do the thanking one day to the true Godly servant.
