π Today's Word:
John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, βDo you want to get well?β
John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, βDo you want to get well?β
Jesus visits a pool near Jerusalem called Bethesda. People would gather there to be healed. When the water in the pool was stirred, the first person who was able to reach the water would be healed. One of these men had been there for a very long time. Jesus walked up to him and asked, "Do you wish to get well?" Well of course he would want to be well. It's obvious. Right! This person had been there for many years. But did he want to get well? Had he become comfortable with his situation? Was he comfortable living off of what people would leave him? Had he given up? Notice his response. I have no one to help me! Was he incapable of doing anything to help himself. This is where a lot of people have to get before they reach out to Jesus seemingly as a last resort. We wait until the last minute before we ask for help. We try to solve our problems on our own before we finally reach out to the One standing next to us asking, "Will you let Me help you?" Sound familiar?
